Exclusive Interview With Diskord

UK based trap/bass act Diskord are rounding off an impressive year. Having dropped numerous rowdy free downloads and had a track featured on Never Say Die and UKF's Vol.3 compilation, they were signed to Circus Records a couple of months back. Wasting no time since putting their signatures on paper with the label, they dropped the killer single “Tell Me Why.” This week saw them follow this one up, bringing the emotive “Release Me” to their growing fan base. We decided to grab a few words with Diskord to hear more about their story.

The string of huge releases just continues to impress! Is there a story behind the creation of “Release Me”?

Thanks! The only story really is that after the tracks we had made were all pretty gnarly and focused on heaviness, we wanted to make something with a bit more emotion and something a bit more “hands in the air.” “Release Me” is what came out of that.

Your last single ‘Tell Me Why’ has been tearing up the clubs, are you happy with the response from your fans?

We've been totally blown away with the response we've had so far on everything we've put out. When you put so much time into tracks it's always a bit daunting when you finally let everyone hear them, but the reaction we've had has been unreal!

How does being a duo affect your live performances? Do you each have separate roles?

Not really, we just take it in turns to be the hype man! But being a duo definitely makes it more fun playing out because you have someone to share it with.

How have you found being part of the Circus family so far?

There's such a wicked team of people at Circus, obviously we're new but they've already made us feel like we belong there. And they all work so hard around the clock to make things happen, it's awesome to know we have a team behind us that will do everything they can to make Diskord a success.

What has been the one standout highlight of your time working as Diskord so far?

So far, it’s probably when we had our first meeting with Josh (Flux Pavilion) and the guys from the label. After putting well over a year of full time, day-in day-out work into our music, seeing the excitement and belief they had for Diskord really made it all worthwhile. And it also confirmed to us we weren’t mental when we were jumping up and down in the studio because of the beats we were making!

Briefly, what do you have planned for the New Year?

So, so much! We’ve got a couple of remixes for two of the heaviest of heavyweights in the scene, more releases on Circus and a collab project with two of our favourite producers… and that's all in the first few months of the year! And once all that work is down, we’ll be out on the road playing shows. So yeah, 2015 is going to be big!

Pick up “Release Me” here.
