Porter Robinson's ‘Worlds' is a one of a kind album, nothing near the same style was ever produced until Porter expanded electronic music far beyond the realm we were accustomed to. ‘Worlds' as a whole is a truly unique piece of art, featuring elements of various electronic genres, but also with a major, never before heard of, Japanese influence. ‘Worlds' has a different, yet beautiful style, true to the entire album, but especially true to one track in particular.
Porter's ‘Flicker' was a genre-breaking, culture-crossing and absolutely brilliant track. Released as Porter's final single prior to the ‘Worlds' release, ‘Flicker' blew me away! Following my first listen I was speechless, and it was not until after many listens did the shell-shock pass and a thought struck my curiosity, “What remixes were to come of such an interesting track?” A question, which to be honest, was not answered how I had hoped, until recently…
‘Flicker' remixes were originally very generic, house, dubstep, etc., and it was not until about a week ago (*insert Bobby Shmurda joke here*) that what I was waiting for finally arrived. Maltine Records, a Japanese record label, has released a remix EP, titled ‘Re:Flicker' and featuring six remixes, each bringing a new “different” to the table.
