X5IGHT, progressive/minimal duo out of Chicago is readying to drop an EP that is their very first label release, “5:00 Shadow”. Today they have surprised fans with a free single off of the new EP, entitled “The Luckiest Man”. This single gives us a great tease of what X5IGHT has in store for us, previewing a new sound they are taking on.
The track features and lends it's name to the famous Lou Gehrig speech, “The Luckiest Man. It begins with a nice drum sample and sidechain effect that dances around either side of your speakers. The song soon switches gears to an uplifting intro with some plucks and Lou Gehrig sample that previews the beat for the rest of the song. Despite straying a bit from their fundamental sound, the progression is distinctly X5IGHT, something that is hard for artists to incorporate into their music while experimenting. Nonetheless, the duo nail it, and the end product is a catchy, flavored song that leaves you wondering what X5IGHT has in store next.
