Fritz Kalkbrenner – Sick Travellin’ Tour 2013 Recap

Fritz Kalkbrenner (Pronounced: Karlkbraernor, phonetic spelling “frɪts kalkˈbʀɛnɐ”) is a German DJ and producer born in Berlin. He mostly produces Techno and Deep House usually fitting in the typical House tempo range of 120-126 BPM.

His most successful single until now and the breakthrough in the music business is “Sky and Sand.” He produced it together with his brother Paul Kalkbrenner and in addition he also sung the vocals.

Until now, Fritz Kalkbrenner has produced just two albums. His debut album “Here Today Gone Tomorrow” came out in 2010 including “Kings In Exile,” a track also featured on the “Kontor – Top Of The Clubs Vol. 50” compilation. His new one is called “Sick Travellin’” which is also the reason for his current tour. The outstanding track called “Little By Little” as well as my personal favorite “Get A Life” are part of this second LP. “Get A Life” is a perfect example for Kalkbrenner's preferences for acoustic samples and his melodic style of techno music. Compared to many other Techno artists his music sounds warmer and more atmospheric. Many of his tracks include vocals sung and written by himself.

Both albums were released by SUOL, a independent record label based in Berlin.

At the moment Fritz Kalkbrenner is playing live shows in many cities all over Europe and Asia. About one week ago he stopped in Bremen to play his live set in the sold out Pier 2.

After a calm intro he played the first track including his breathtaking live vocals called “Little By Little”. Everyone in the audience was carried away by the amazing melodic beats. Throughout the set was an incredible atmosphere everwhere beside me. He played parts from both albums as well as “Sky and Sand” and a new track he hasn't finished for long which will be a really dance-able and powerful release.

Summarized the set fascinated with it's amazing atmosphere created by Fritz Kalkbrenner's individual melodic style and his persuading vocals. His live mixed set was full of nice break downs, amazing mixes and great VIP versions of his original tracks. Also singing the vocals live was a great decision he made before this tour.

The remaining stops of the Sick Travellin' tour are mostly located in Germany including performances at Rock am Ring, Rock im Park and the Berlin Festival but he will also play at festivals in Belgium, France, Netherlands, Austria, Hungary and Switzerland and concerts in Turkey, Luxembourg, France, Italy and in the Czech Republic.
