Timmy Trumpet is the stage name of Australian DJ and producer Timothy Jude Smith, and yes, that name is literal — he’s built an entire career around playing live trumpet over festival-sized electronic productions, which is about as unique a gimmick-turned-signature-sound as dance music has. He trained as a jazz musician before crossing over into EDM, and that background shows in just how tight his live trumpet solos are, even blasting over hardstyle and big room drops well north of 130 BPM.
His breakout moment came with 2015’s “Freaks” featuring Savage, a track that turned into a genuine phenomenon — it went six-times platinum in Australia, earned RIAA gold in the US, and blew up in part thanks to a viral Vine clip, racking up hundreds of millions of streams in the years since. That same year he also linked with Carnage and KSHMR for “Toca,” a big room rework of Bach that became a festival staple. His 2016 single “Oracle,” his solo debut on Spinnin’ Records, hit number one on Beatport and proved “Freaks” wasn’t a fluke.
Timmy’s sound doesn’t sit still — he moves through big room house, electro house, hardstyle, Melbourne bounce, and even psytrance depending on the crowd and the moment, which is part of why he’s worked with such a wide range of artists including Hardwell, Armin van Buuren, KSHMR, Blasterjaxx (on “Narco”), and Vini Vici. That versatility has kept him relevant across scenes that don’t always overlap.
He’s still very much at the top of his game — DJ Mag ranked him #6 on its Top 100 DJs list in 2025, and he picked up “Club DJ of The Year” and “Favourite Nightclub Residency” at the 2025 Electronic Dance Music Awards. He also hosts “SINPHONY Radio,” his weekly show that broadcasts in more than 40 countries, keeping fans plugged into new music and mixes between tour stops. For a guy who built his whole brand around a brass instrument, Timmy Trumpet has proven it’s way more than a novelty — it’s a genuinely massive career.
