Subtronics

Subtronics doesn’t do subtle. The Philadelphia-born producer, real name Jesse Kardon, has built a career on dubstep that hits as hard as it’s technically dazzling — intricate sound design wrapped around some of the nastiest wobbles in the genre.

Kardon started on drums as a kid before discovering EDM in high school, and it didn’t take long for him to find his lane. His real breakout moment came in 2019 with “Griztronics,” a collaboration with GRiZ that cracked the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and exploded across TikTok, racking up hundreds of millions of views. That track put Subtronics squarely on the bass music map, and he hasn’t slowed down since.

He runs his own label, Cyclops Recordings, which he launched in 2020, alongside releases on scene staples like Never Say Die, Disciple, Kannibalen, and SubCarbon. His album run has been stacked: Fractals in 2022, the remix companion Antifractals in 2023, Tesseract in 2024, and the first installment of a planned two-parter, Fibonacci Part 1: Oblivion, in April 2025 — all of which landed in the top five of the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

The accolades have followed the music. Subtronics was Beatport’s top-selling artist of 2024, has picked up Dubstep Artist of the Year three times over, and took home DJ Mag North America’s DJ of the Year in 2023. On the road, he’s held down a residency at Wynn Las Vegas, sold out six straight nights at LA’s Shrine Expo Hall, and made his mainstage debut at EDC Las Vegas.

Subtronics is a fixture of the bass music family tree, trading collabs regularly with Excision, Rezz, GRiZ, Zeds Dead, and Rusko. And it’s a family in more than one sense — he’s married to fellow producer Level Up (Sonya Broner), making the two of them one of bass music’s power couples. Between the label, the album cycle, and a touring schedule that shows no signs of stopping, Subtronics remains one of the most consistent hitmakers dubstep has going right now.
