Martin Solveig has been one of French dance music’s most reliable hitmakers for well over a decade, the kind of producer who can make a pop chorus and a club drop feel like they were always meant to sit in the same track. He first started making noise in French house circles in the early 2000s, but it was 2011’s “Hello,” a collab with Canadian duo Dragonette off his album Smash, that turned him into a name outside the dance music bubble. That track had the kind of chorus that gets stuck in your head for a week, and it put Solveig on festival lineups and radio playlists all over the world.

He didn’t stop there. Solveig kept churning out collaborations that crossed genre lines without losing his signature bounce, teaming up with GTA for “Intoxicated” and later linking with Ina Wroldsen for “Rejection,” another track that showed he could write hooks as easily as he could build a drop. He’s also worked behind the scenes with artists well outside the EDM world, co-writing on Madonna’s Revolver, which says a lot about the range he brought to the table as both a producer and a songwriter.

Then came the news that shook a lot of fans this past year. On July 19, 2025, Solveig walked onstage at France’s Les Vieilles Charrues festival in front of roughly 70,000 people and announced he was retiring from live performance. He told the crowd he’d always played every show like it was his last, “just until that moment arrives.” It was an emotional way to close out a touring career that spanned more than two decades.

But this isn’t a full goodbye. Solveig has been clear that he’s only stepping away from DJing live, not from music itself. In a statement following the announcement, he said he was “leaving the stage with a full heart, stepping aside for the next generation,” and that he’ll keep creating “for the joy, for the kids, and for/with artists I look up to.” So while the touring chapter is closed, don’t expect Martin Solveig to disappear from dance music entirely. The productions, the writing, the behind-the-scenes work, that’s sticking around.

Few producers have managed to stay this relevant across so many eras of dance music, from early-2000s French house through the pop-EDM boom and beyond. Solveig’s catalog is proof that great songwriting travels well no matter what the scene around it looks like.
