Kolter
Kolter’s story is one of the more interesting rebrand arcs in house music right now. The Cologne-based producer used to go by DJOKO, a name he’d built a real reputation under, until a cease-and-desist letter forced him to find a new one. Instead of treating that as a setback, he leaned into it — Kolter, and the fresh start that came with it, now feels like a deeper, more deliberate version of what he was doing before.
His sound doesn’t sit still. Kolter works across house, techno, funk, and even breakbeat, and he’s said outright that he’d rather follow his instincts than chase a label’s house style: “It can be breakbeat, house, or whatever else I decide.” That flexibility shows up in his catalog — under the DJOKO name he put out the “Endless Explorations” LP series on Berg Audio, a well-respected house label, and he’s also collaborated with Hot Creations and stayed involved with Hoove, a label he runs alongside a handful of collaborators.
In 2023, he launched his own imprint, Koltrax, giving himself a dedicated home for whatever he wants to release without answering to anyone else’s aesthetic — the debut Koltrax release, “Please Don’t Call Me,” dropped that same year. He’s also linked up with Chris Stussy for the Stussko project and has put out music on Stussy’s Up The Stuss imprint, plus releases through Shall Not Fade and PIV.
On the DJ side, Kolter’s résumé is stacked with rooms that actually matter to house heads — Rex Club in Paris, DC-10 in Ibiza, Shelter in Amsterdam, and Tomorrowland, with tours across Canada, Australia, and South America rounding things out. He’s also recently become a parent, which by his own account has shifted how he approaches his studio time and touring — a pretty relatable adjustment for any working producer.
Kolter’s whole deal right now is versatility without losing an identity — genre-blending sets, a label that’s his and only his, and a catalog that keeps expanding in directions that make sense for him rather than for a scene trend. Given the range he’s already shown, don’t be surprised if Kolter ends up being a bigger name than DJOKO ever was.
