Excision

Excision is a dubstep artist who is known for his heavy bass drops and crazy stage shows. He first started producing music in 2006, and he has been making waves in the dubstep scene ever since. His trademark sound is a combination of growling basslines and screeching synths, which often leads to some pretty intense headbanging. But despite the aggressive nature of his music, Excision always makes sure to include some catchy hooks and melodies to keep listeners coming back for more. In addition to his musical talent, Excision is also an accomplished visual artist, and his live shows often feature mind-blowing projections and light displays. Whether you’re a fan of dubstep or not, there’s no denying that Excision is a truly unique talent.

Behind all that bass is Jeff Abel, a Kelowna, British Columbia native who’s been grinding in the scene since 2006. He’s basically one of the architects of North American dubstep, the kind of producer other artists point to when they talk about where the heavy stuff came from. Excision put out his first EP, “Boom,” on his own label Rottun Recordings back in 2009, and it was pretty much a straight shot from there to festival main stages around the world.

Rottun was just the beginning, though. In 2020 he launched Subsidia Records to give up-and-coming bass artists a real platform, and it’s since released music from over 100 producers. He’s also the driving force behind Destroid, his metal-leaning live band project, because apparently one heavy alter ego wasn’t enough for the guy.

Then there’s Lost Lands. Excision founded the festival in 2017 at Legend Valley in Ohio, and it’s grown into one of the biggest dedicated bass music festivals anywhere, dinosaurs, pyro, and all. He didn’t stop there, either, going on to launch Bass Canyon and Paradise Blue under his Excision Presents banner, with his events pulling in hundreds of thousands of fans every year.

On the collab front, Excision has linked up with names like Illenium, Pegboard Nerds, Downlink, Space Laces, Dion Timmer, Wooli, Sullivan King, and even rock band I Prevail, proof that heavy bass plays well with just about anything. Across five studio albums and a stack of EPs and singles, his catalog has racked up more than 2 billion streams.

Excision is still out here grinding, too. He announced a new Winter Tour for 2026, with more dates promised soon, and Lost Lands keeps expanding its lineup year after year. Nearly two decades into his career, he’s still one of the hardest-touring, heaviest-hitting names in bass music, and he shows zero signs of slowing down.
