Cashmere Cat

Cashmere Cat is the alias of Norwegian producer Magnus August Høiberg, and honestly his path to pop-world domination started way outside the dance scene — he was a two-time Norwegian DMC turntablism champion before he ever settled into producing full-time. His 2012 debut EP “Mirror Maru” is what put him on the map in electronic circles, pulling co-signs from Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, and Gilles Peterson for its glitchy, emotionally warped take on club music.

From there, things moved fast. A 2013 collaboration with Benny Blanco led him to relocate to Manhattan, and that’s when Cashmere Cat basically became a stealth pop architect. He’s since produced or co-written for Kanye West, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, BTS, and Snoop Dogg — a resume that reads like a who’s-who of the last decade of pop and R&B. His biggest commercial flex is probably co-producing The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber’s “Stay,” which hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2021.

As a solo artist, he’s dropped two full-lengths: “9” in 2017, which cracked the top 15 on Norway’s VG-lista chart, and “Princess Catgirl” in 2019, where he leaned further into hyperpop textures years before that sound became a whole internet movement. That’s part of what makes Cashmere Cat interesting — he’s constantly a few steps ahead of where the genre ends up going, whether that’s future bass, alt-R&B, or glitchy pop production.

He’s stayed just as busy behind the boards recently. He worked on Lil Uzi Vert’s “Eternal Atake 2” in 2024 as songwriter, producer, and executive producer, and contributed to Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez’s joint album “I Said I Love You First” in 2025 — proof that more than a decade in, he’s still one of the most in-demand names in the studio, even if he’s not always the one whose name is up in lights.
