Anyma
Anyma isn’t just a side project, it’s become one of the most ambitious artistic statements in dance music right now. Behind it is Matteo Milleri, the Italian producer already known as one half of the influential duo Tale Of Us, who’s used his solo alias to push melodic techno somewhere entirely new: sci-fi, cinematic, and built for the biggest stages on Earth.
Milleri met Tale Of Us partner Carmine Conte in Milan in 2008 while studying sound engineering, and together they became one of the defining acts of the melodic techno wave. In 2016, the pair founded Afterlife Recordings, which grew into one of electronic music’s most influential labels and eventually partnered with Interscope Records to expand its reach well beyond the underground.
Anyma launched as its own project in 2021, giving Milleri room to chase a more visually driven, conceptual vision. His debut EP Claire, released that June, came packaged with what was billed as the world’s first full-size NFT music video. The project centers on themes of artificial intelligence and humanity, brought to life on stage through elaborate CGI and a recurring humanoid character named EVA, developed with visual artist Alessio De Vecchi. Musically, Anyma blends melodic house and techno with ambient, electronica, and classical touches, prioritizing scale and atmosphere as much as the groove itself.
The Genesys era took things to another level. The 2023 concept album Genesys made Anyma the top-selling artist on Beatport that year and cracked the top five of the UK Official Dance Albums Chart. A sequel, Genesys II, followed in 2024 as a sprawling 21-track release on Afterlife/Interscope, with The End of Genesys arriving as the planned closer to the trilogy.
Then came Sphere. In December 2024, Milleri became the first electronic artist ever booked at the Las Vegas venue, launching “The End of Genesys” residency there. The initial run of shows reportedly sold 100,000 tickets within 24 hours, with additional dates added through March 2025 and guest appearances from Ellie Goulding, FKA Twigs, Grimes, and Yeat. Speaking of Goulding, their collaboration “Hypnotized” became Anyma’s first number one single on any Billboard chart in early 2025.
2025 also brought major festival sets at Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Ultra, a first-ever appearance on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list, co-directing duties for the 2025 League of Legends World Championship opening ceremony, and a global publishing deal with Kobalt Music Group. For an artist barely five years into a solo career, Anyma has already redefined what a dance music show can look like.
