Alison Wonderland

Alison Wonderland doesn’t sound like anyone else in dance music, and that’s the whole point. Born Alexandra Sholler in Sydney, she trained as a classical cellist and performed with the Sydney Youth Opera before a night out hearing The Knife’s “Silent Shout” sent her down a completely different path. She took the name Alison Wonderland — a nod to Lewis Carroll — and started building a sound that mixes EDM, electropop, trap, and future bass into something that’s unmistakably hers.

She started turning heads as a remixer in 2012, signed to EMI Music Australia in 2014, and built her following the old-fashioned way: relentless touring, warehouse shows, and a live set that hits harder than most. Her 2015 debut album Run cracked the top 10 on the ARIA charts and went gold. Awake followed in 2018 and shot to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, cementing her as one of the genre’s most singular voices. Loner came in 2022, and in December 2025 she dropped her fourth album, Ghost World, led by the single “Heaven” featuring Ninajirachi — a record she’s described as going back to her musical roots.

Alison’s also known for pushing past the DJ booth. She’s the highest-billed female DJ in Coachella history, landed on DJ Mag’s Top 100, and picked up EDMA Female Artist of the Year honors in both 2022 and 2026. She was profiled in the 2020 documentary Underplayed, which put a spotlight on gender inequality in dance music, and she’s been candid about her own struggles with mental health and depression tied to an abusive relationship — using her platform to push for more honest conversations in a scene that doesn’t always make room for that.

With Ghost World out and a run of Australian tour dates announced for 2026, including a Sydney warehouse show, Alison Wonderland is squarely in another new era. Fifteen-plus years into her career, she’s still doing things her own way — genre-blending, boundary-pushing, and never afraid to get personal about it.
