Alex Metric has been quietly shaping the sound of house and disco house for close to two decades, and if you didn’t already know his name, you definitely know his fingerprints. Born Alex Drury in London on the last day of 1981, he’s built a career on being the guy in the room who makes everyone else’s record better. That reputation paid off big at the 61st Grammy Awards, where he took home Best Dance Recording for producing “Electricity” with Silk City and Dua Lipa — one of the biggest dance crossover moments of the last decade.

As a solo artist, Alex Metric moves through house, disco house, electropop, progressive house, electro house, and nu-disco like it’s nothing. His Ammunition EP series (2012–2015) is a great snapshot of that range, and he’s kept the momentum going with releases like the Space & Time EP in 2023, plus side projects Metroplane and Kuu that let him stretch out even further. Go back to his 2011 compilation Open Your Eyes (Remixes & Productions) and you get the full picture of just how versatile his production game really is.

He’s also one of the most in-demand remixers in the game, having flipped tracks from Daft Punk, Gorillaz, Pet Shop Boys, and Foals. Behind the boards, his writing and production credits stack up with Mark Ronson, Avicii, Diplo, Melanie C, Muse, and Charli XCX — basically a resume that spans pop, rock, and dance without a single weak link.

Alex Metric hasn’t slowed down heading into 2025 and 2026 either. He’s been linking up with rising UK singer Rose Gray on tracks like “Tectonic,” “April,” and “Lotus,” and teaming with Chloe Caillet on “Sugar,” keeping his sound firmly planted in what’s next rather than what’s already happened. Whether he’s dropping solo cuts on Anjunadeep and Big Beat Records or ghost-writing a hit you didn’t realize was his, Alex Metric remains one of dance music’s most reliable secret weapons.
