Gorillaz is a British virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The band is composed of four cartoon characters: 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs. These characters are animated in music videos and live performances, and they have also been featured in a range of merchandise, including trading cards, T-shirts, and toys. The band's unique approach to music has earned them worldwide acclaim, and their self-titled debut album was nominated for the 2001 Mercury Prize. Gorillaz has released six studio albums to date, selling over 26 million copies worldwide. In addition to their musical success, Gorillaz has also been praised for their innovative use of new media, including VR experiences and augmented reality concerts.
