Well I will be blunt with y'all. It technically wasn't released 7 years ago today. It was came out on June 7th, 2010. But that was a Wednesday this year and in honor of #TBT I decided for all intents and purposes to just jostle the date a bit. Close enough right? Whatever, this EP deserves to be revisited once a year AT LEAST anyway.
Skrillex Changes EDM Forever
On June 7th 2010, Skrillex released his debut EP that would go on to change the way electronic was viewed and produced forever. He dropped ‘My Name Is Skrillex' as a free download on his Myspace page. That sentence right there is enough to give you of an idea how much as changed since his masterpiece of a debut.
The EP included 6 tracks: “My Name Is Skrillex”, “WEEKENDS!!!” (featuring Sirah), “Fucking Die 1”, “Fucking Die 2 (€€ Cooper Mix)”, “Do Da Oliphant” and “With You, Friends”. Ultimately only ‘WEEKENDS!!!' would go on to officially chart in any country. The track hit 100 in Germany and 93 in Australia. While the initial release received an underwhelming reaction initially, it would go on to change the way dance music was created. Skrillex ultimately changed dubstep and bass music as a whole with this brilliant release. So let's sit back, reminiscence, and enjoy this gorgeous EP once again.
