MK is closing out the summer the way he knows best: with a vocal house cut built for the late-night hours. “Leaving,” his new single with UK vocalist Tristan Henry, dropped Friday, and it pairs one of house music’s true veterans with one of its fastest-rising voices.

If the name Tristan Henry sounds familiar, it should. He’s the voice behind Cloonee and Prospa’s “Good Girl” from July — and those two have basically owned the club charts lately, with “Free Your Mind” still parked in the Beatport Top 10 we broke down in our August roundup. Landing on an MK record this quickly tells you everything about the moment he’s having. Before this, he’d already logged features with Funkin Matt and DASCO, quietly becoming one of the most in-demand toplines in house.

And MK? Marc Kinchen has been doing this since Detroit in the early ’90s, long before most of the current tech-house wave was born. He’s the guy behind “17,” the era-defining remix of Storm Queen’s “Look Right Through” that went to No. 1 in the UK, and a catalog that’s racked up over a billion streams. When he picks a vocalist, it’s usually because he hears something the rest of the scene is about to catch onto.

“Leaving” fits right into that lineage. It’s a warm, moody, late-night roller — the kind of record MK has always made better than just about anyone, with Henry’s vocal doing the emotional heavy lifting over a classic MK bounce. Billboard’s dance pages and the UK’s Official Charts both flagged it among the week’s notable new dance releases, and it’s easy to hear why.

The timing feels right, too. Vocal house has been quietly elbowing its way back to the front of the room all year — the biggest club records of the summer have been the ones you can actually sing along to, not just nod at. A proper topline over a proper groove never really goes out of style; it just waits for the scene to come back around. “Leaving” lands right in that sweet spot.

It’s been a minute since MK dominated a season, but this one has “end-of-summer set closer” written all over it. “Leaving” is out now on all streaming platforms. Give it a spin before every DJ in your city does — because they will.
