Manchester is getting a new club. Locker opens with a two-night inaugural weekend on October 2-3, 2026, a 450-capacity space downstairs at New Century in Manchester city centre, near Victoria Station. The opening parties bring in Nooriyah, Paranoid London and DJ Subaru — which tells you a lot about the range they’re going for right out of the gate.

If you’ve been to New Century, you know the main hall upstairs — the restored mid-century venue that’s hosted everyone from rising bands to club nights since its relaunch. Locker is the opposite proposition: low ceilings, exposed architecture, and what the venue describes as a focused, subterranean energy. There’s a dedicated bar, custom lighting, a proper sound system, and yes — actual lockers for your stuff, which is the kind of small quality-of-life detail more clubs should steal.

The venue is pitching this as a real shift, not a side room. New Century says it’s expanding beyond live music into “a dedicated, razor sharp club programme running late into the night,” and managing director Abby Mudge says Locker is a chance to “dive into our acid house roots” and “support even more grassroots talent.” According to the announcement, the first season runs through December 11 and stacks up Logic1000, IZCO, Soichi Terada, Bimini, Jyoty, Y U QT, Heidi, Manuka Honey and Two Shell — a genuinely strong opening stretch for a 450-cap room. Early bird tickets are going for £10 to newsletter subscribers.

A new grassroots-minded club opening in 2026 is worth celebrating on its own, given how many rooms this size have been closing across the UK. It’s the same conversation driving Sub Focus’s £1 grassroots venue levy on his arena shows — the small rooms are where the scene actually develops, and somebody has to keep building them. And Manchester specifically has momentum right now: between this and the bigger UK club stories we’ve been tracking, like fabric locking in four years of events at St Paul’s Cathedral, British clubland is having a more optimistic run than it’s had in a while.

Will a basement room with lockers and a Soichi Terada live set become your new favorite reason to visit Manchester? Ask us again after opening weekend. But on paper, this is exactly the kind of club opening we like writing about: small, serious about sound, and booked like the people running it actually go out.
