Some collabs just have unfinished business. Louis The Child and Elohim — the pairing behind 2017’s feel-good gem “Love Is Alive” — got back in the studio together, and the result is “Wish You Were Here,” a new single that dropped Friday.

If you were around for the first wave of Louis The Child mania, you know why this one hits different. “Love Is Alive” was one of those tracks that soundtracked an entire era of melodic, future-bass-adjacent dance music — we were on it back in 2017 — and Elohim’s airy, slightly off-kilter vocal was a huge part of what made it work. Nearly a decade later, that partnership picks right back up.

“Wish You Were Here” leans into what both acts do best. The Chicago duo of Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett have always had a knack for production that feels warm rather than engineered — playful chords, bouncy drums, melodies that sound like summer ending. Elohim, meanwhile, has spent the years since “Love Is Alive” building her own catalog of emotionally raw electronic pop, and she slides back into the Louis The Child universe like she never left. The title tells you the vibe: it’s a longing song you can still dance to, clocking in at a tidy three minutes and change.

What’s nice here is that nobody’s chasing a trend. While half the scene is busy cranking out tech house or dusting off big room, this is unmistakably a Louis The Child record — the same DNA that gave us “It’s Strange” and “Better Not,” just older and a little more bittersweet. There’s something comforting about artists who know exactly what lane is theirs and keep paving it.

It also caps a stretch where the duo have been steadily active without oversaturating — festival runs, Playground sets, and a drip of singles rather than album-cycle carpet bombing. Dropping a reunion collab with one of their most beloved vocal partners feels like a treat aimed squarely at the day-ones.

So: was it worth the nine-year wait? That’s between you and your headphones. But “Love Is Alive” walked so this could… well, stroll wistfully into your late-summer playlists. “Wish You Were Here” is streaming everywhere now.
