Amsterdam’s Gashouder Sets November Reopening With Stacked ADE Pre-Opening Week
Amsterdam's legendary Gashouder returns from renovation with ADE pre-opening shows from Armin van Buuren, Eric Prydz, Mochakk, and Sammy Virji before its November grand reopening.
One of dance music’s most sacred rooms is almost back. Gashouder — the cavernous circular gasworks building in Amsterdam’s Westerpark that’s hosted countless Awakenings ragers — will officially reopen in November 2026 after nearly two years of renovation, and it’s warming up first with a pre-opening run during Amsterdam Dance Event, October 21-25.
If you’ve never been: Gashouder is the kind of venue people plan entire ADE trips around. A hundred-plus-year-old industrial rotunda with a roof that feels a mile high and acoustics that turn techno into weather. It closed in January 2025 for a top-to-bottom overhaul — upgraded sound, better insulation, improved crowd flow, and a general glow-up for the surrounding Westergas cultural park.
The pre-opening ADE program is, frankly, stacked. Armin van Buuren opens the week on Wednesday, October 21 alongside hard house revivalist Benwal — a pairing first announced back in May — and the days that follow bring Eric Prydz, I Hate Models, Job Jobse, Mochakk, Franky Rizardo, Josh Baker, and Sammy Virji through the room. That’s trance royalty, peak-time techno, Brazilian house heat, and UK garage’s man of the moment all under one very large dome. “We’re not only showcasing the incredible diversity of electronic music today, but also the role Gashouder aims to play within it,” the venue’s programmers said of the lineup — and the booking spread backs that up. This isn’t just Awakenings’ home base reopening as a techno bunker; they’re pitching it as a room for every corner of the scene.
After ADE week, work continues on the venue’s underground spaces while the main hall keeps hosting events through the official grand reopening in November. Amsterdam without Gashouder never felt right. Good to have the big room back.
