While sampling has been a mainstay in the world of dance music since the very inception of the genre, there has been a big trend of sampling classic songs as 2018 comes to an end. Last week, we saw David Guetta and Netsky attempt (unsuccessfully) to rework Foreigner's ‘Cold As Ice', and this week we have a rework of Marvin Gaye by Tiesto.

Tiesto – Grapevine

‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine' is a track that is instantly recognizable from the first chords. Whether you are more familiar with Marvin Gaye's original or Creedence Clear Water Revival's version of the track doesn't make a difference – the tune is iconic. That is why I held my breath a little bit when I discovered Tiesto sampled the classic track in his latest release, ‘Grapevine'.

Reworking a classic takes some balls. Unless it is absolutely perfect, an artist will get shredded on social media. While this track isn't necessarily a game-changing endeavor, Tiesto has found a decent amount of success in this brief single. He worked outside the box a bit in terms of laying down a solid production and paid homage to the original by incorporating the vocal hook.
