If you're going out this weekend in New York City, skip the over-hyped clubs and party with a purpose!
In the first of an international series of events, Assembly: A Give Back To The Block Party will be held at Williamsburg's The Paper Box this Saturday, September 23rd. Assembly aims to curate local DJs and musicians to fundraise for charities that address the most important causes for that local community. In Brooklyn's case, proceeds from this event will be donated towards affordable housing, mental health awareness, food security, and sexual and domestic abuse prevention.
Here's the best part: you get to decide where your money goes! Each attendee will be able to choose what cause their ticket money will be donated to.
Behind all of this altruism is a killer line-up, featuring legendary turntablist TJ Mizell (DJ for A$AP Ferg) and Nigerian-American rapper Siimba Lives Long.
The creators of the event leave this note for the public: “People are constantly looking for ways to do good, and ‘giving back to the block' is a simple, effective mechanism to do so. People no longer gather around events; they gather around communities of purpose and passion.”
Be sure to swing by The Paper Box from 4-8pm this Saturday, 9/23!
