Universal, Sony and Warner have filed a lawsuit in the state of California against a German YouTube ripping website which allows its users to convert YouTube videos into an mp3.
These major labels claim that stream ripping such as this one have become a major threat to the music industry, “functioning as an unlawful substitute for the purchase of recorded music and the purchase of subscriptions to authorized streaming services.”

The website YouTube-mp3.org is said to be the chief offender and accounts for 40% of all of the unlawful stream ripping that takes place in the world.
The labels are demanding access to the website be blocked and the company to pay statutory damages and costs.
