Normally, when it comes to The M Machine and their music, they cover a wide base of both beauty and beast: from electro-house scorchers and chiptune-infused moombahcore, to whimsical synth-pop and pensive downtempo. And normally, The M Machine further distinguish themselves in the EDM scene by centering their music on elaborate story concepts to enrich its artistic worth and push it beyond your average dance music.

This new M Machine track, though, is anything but normal.

Though the trio has been rigorously working on their debut album for quite a while now, they decided to take a studio detour in order to bring forth some new music. In the spirit of that detour from the album, the first track they’ve debuted off of their upcoming EP, Just Like, is certainly off-tangent from their powerful and artsy catalog of tunes. With bouncy retro-electro synth plucks, a heaping amount of percussion, and goofy vocal samples (including a caricatured voiceover tripping balls), “Just Like” is The M Machine at their silliest, and it accomplishes the jovial demeanor The M Machine were aiming for with flying colors. It’s not a track that’ll blow the roof off, but it is a perfect track to throw into a jokey party playlist, right in between “Barbie Girl” and the Space Jam theme song.

Just Like will be released on November 11 via OWSLA, and who knows what other curveballs will be included in the EP. And be sure to check out our recent Q&A with The M Machine.
