With the anticipation building for the release of Gareth Emery’s second studio album, Drive, the UK-based producer/DJ decided to post a track from the album on his Soundcloud; his favorite one, to boot. And just like how he claimed last year that his new album would not include bangers, this new track- straying away from mighty drops and buzzy electro leads- shows that he meant what he said. “Long Way Home” starts off with a plucky, trance-inspired melody — a signature preference of Emery’s. Affectionate, chopped...read more
Envision festival took place in Utiva, Costa Rica in late February and was a huge success from what I heard. As an attendant, Brady Jacob, also known by his moniker Skinny Hendrix in the Miami local music scene, assembled an awesome mix based on the artists who performed. Without any disrespect to Martin Garrix’s ‘Animals’, Armin van Buuren reminds us why he’s truly one of the best to have ever lived. Debuting his track ‘Ping Pong’ at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, I was honestly left speechless. Sampling the simple sound of a ping pong ball, and turning it into a track worthy of the gods. This masterpiece simply is a reassuring hug that there is still magic left in dance music. As we head into uncertain times in 2014, we find salvation in music, as Armin guides us into...read more
Did you know that not all freshman producers start off making progressive house or trap? Crazy, right? But Bastian Salbart, the new kid on the block of Poland’s trance scene, is proof of that. With only a handful of releases under his belt, Salbart’s newest addition to his budding discography is his Can People Fly EP, signed to High Contrast Recordings/Be Yourself Music. The two songs on the EP, “Can People Fly” and “Yes We Can,” not only complement each other in title, but also in sound. “Can...read more
