Over the past year, Kaytranada has emerged as a staple artist in electronic, dance and hip hop music. The Canadian DJ has a way of creating such a happy and groovy sound that completely captures his audience.
After the release of his first studio album in May 2016, 99.9%, Kaytranada has undoubtedly became one of my favorites. So when he released his Mixtape 0.001%??? in late 2016, I was ecstatic. The Mixtape features “beats, loops, remixes and sounds made during the process of 99.9%”, which serves as a mesmerizing supplement to his first studio album. More recently Kaytranada began releasing singles from the 0.001%??? mixtape, which is something for all of us to be happy for.
The most recent released single from the mixtape is his remix of TLC‘s classic, “Diggin on You”; “FLIPPIN ON YOU”. The track starts off with a beautiful rise into the melodic house beat that is so upbeat you can't help but smile and shake your hips. Then Kay introduces the more heavier bass and rhythm to build into the nostalgic vocals from 90's trio TLC. Kay remasters the soulful lyrics in his signature style by adding layers of echoes and repetition until you nearly forget that this song was rendered from a 90's girl band.
Now lucky for us, FLIPPIN ON YOU isn't the only single from 0.001%??? Kaytranada has blessed us with recently. He also dropped his edit of Latrelle‘s House Party, and his iconic collab with Chance the Rapper and Knox Fortune All Night.
To top it all of, just yesterday he dropped his sexy love ballad collab with Alicia Keys “Sweet F'in Love”. Between her raspy melodies and quite whispers, Key's vocals touch your soul in a way like no other. These phenomenal vocals paired with Kaytranada's signature up-tempo R&B infused house beats create the perfect romantic collaboration you didn't even know you needed.
Well, I know I'm not alone in still wanting more and more and more from this Canadian DJ extraordinaire. So if you need me, Ill be refreshing his soundcloud until he allows us another glimpse into his musical mastermind.
