I was fortunate enough to have Cyantific answer a few questions and here is what he had to say.

What made you decide to produce drum and bass?

It was my main love. Once I’d started buying records in 1995 I knew it was what I was going to do. I wanted to immerse myself in it, not just buy records but DJ, then that wasn’t enough, I wanted to make the records too!

What is more rewarding, finishing a song or a monster set on stage?

They’re totally different feelings. The instant gratification of playing to an appreciative crowd is special. Finishing a song is more like you’ve conquered something that required focus, willpower and patience. I love them both.

What has been the defining moment of your career so far?

Waking up in the morning and knowing I get to do what I love every day.

Who are your biggest influences?

In drum & bass there’s a long list. There’s a few people who I owe a lot of my sound to like Matrix, Jonny L, MIST, Sub Focus, Culture Shock etc. Outside of that I’m very much into the 80’s funk stuff like D-Train, Cameo & Midnight Star. I love 80’s soundtrack music too, that’s a big part of what I aim to bring into what I do.

Can you tell us about your upcoming “debut” album dropping next year?

It’s technically not my debut, but it is as a solo artist. So I count it as my debut. It’s well underway. I want to make it something really worth listening to, hopefully that’s going to come across. But this is still dance music, and I love to make people dance, so it’s not going to be an abstract kind of thing!

Is there any chance of you crossing the pond to play in the US anytime soon?
