MOTi Talks New Music, Goals For 2016 And More [EDM Sauce Interview]

Timo Romme, better known at MOTi has had one heck of a year. The Dutch DJ/Producer released tons of huge tracks including his most recent collab with Major Lazer called, ‘Boom'. Speaking of collaborations, he also released tracks with Tiesto, DVBBS, Blasterjaxx, Sander Van Doorn, Martin Garrix, and more. This is only just the beginning for him, as he has much more in the works and many goals set to be accomplished in 2016. I would say that MOTI is making a name for himself but he clearly has already done so. If you don't know or haven't heard of MOTi, you must have been living under a rock. I had a chance to catch up with him and ask several questions about his latest release, what he is currently working on, future plans/goals and much more. Check out the full interview below and be sure to keep up with MOTi via Social media.

How would you describe your sound and style?
“It kinda changes overtime. In my DJ sets I play a lot of big room, progressive EDM stuff. Mostly my own tracks and all the collabs I have done. I think the Major Lazer collab is a good example of what my music in 2016 is going to be like. Not necessary hip hop influenced moombahton, but more of a song like that. I want to focus on creating songs I can play in the club or festivals but also what you would listen to on your iPod.”

Tell me a little bit about your latest release ‘Boom'. What was it like working with Major Lazer?
“It was awesome. Diplo is a great guy and also super talented. He sent me Ty's vocal a year ago, and I think about 6 months ago I started messing around with the vocal, making a moombah beat for it and then added the basic drop sounds, etc. Two months ago we did a studio session in Amsterdam and used the basic elements from the early version to make it a proper song. I'm super happy with the end result and also Wizkid’s hook and Kraniums verse are awesome!”

You have collaborated with a ton of different producers such as Tiësto, Blasterjaxx, DVBBS, and more. Is there anyone else that you would really like to collab with?
I hope to work with a lot more singer/songwriters in 2016. There are so many talented people out there, and it would be a shame if I only focus on instrumental club tracks!”

2015 has been a huge year for you. What has been the highlight so far?
“My festival highlights this year were definitely RFM SOMNII Portugal & Kinetic Fields EDC Las Vegas. My favorite release this year is my collaboration with Major Lazer, Boom!”

What are your goals for 2016 and moving forward?
“Work harder, and focus on making more music. I have been on tour a lot in 2015 and want to plan my tours better in 2016 so that I have some more studio time. Besides that, I think it’s necessary to start building a brand linked to MOTi. Maybe a radio show that eventually grows into something bigger. We'll see… Lets just say I'm going to work twice as hard in 2016 because I'm not nearly as far as I want to be in my career!”

What else are you currently working on?
“Right now I'm working on my new single which will be released early summer. Its called ‘Turn Me Up' and it’s a feel good summer song. I will first release a club dub version of the track and the original version a bit later. I've also got a track coming up with Bassjackers and Joe Ghost, as well as another collab with my good friends DVBBS. I’m also working on stuff with Tiësto. Its kind of getting to be a yearly thing now, a new Tiësto & MOTi collab at WMC.”

What inspires you and how do you stay motivated?
“Every 6 months or so I get bored with what’s happening with music. Someone comes up with a new track and everyone copies it until someone else comes up with a new track to copy. When I start getting bored by all the music I hear, I get extra motivated and inspired. That’s when I want to create something new sound wise or use influences from older tracks and create something new with it.”
