Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff Planning 2016 Tour & Album

Before twerk and trap music, a new era of hip-hop emerged from the late eighties and early nineties with the unprecedented success of Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff's work on albums like He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper and Parents Just Don't Understand.

After a few years watching his kids soar in music and film, Will Smith is itching to create and return to performing. The superstar actor and his partner-in-crime DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jeff Townes) may well be taking on a summer world tour in 2016, Rolling Stone reports.

Smith recently revealed on Zane Lowe‘s Beats 1 radio show that he's looking to make a comeback next year. Following an appearance on Bomba Estereo's “Fiesta” remix, he's been quite active in his spare time lately – admitting to Lowe that he has over 30 recorded tracks. Apparently, he's “terrified” to go back on the road but that won't stop him.

“I’m from the era of 16 bars, hook, 16 bars, hook, bridge, hook, out,” Smith said. “I'm just trying to still find that voice; I have so many things that I wanna say. I'm struggling with saying 'em in a way that fit the flavor of music that I tend to like.”

The 47 year-old also admits that a Bad Boys 3 will be coming in the next 12-16 months as well – along with some other exciting films that are in the works.

DJ Jazzy Jeff, meanwhile, is looking to possibly release the sixth album with Smith and maintains that his friend has never stopped working on his craft. They released “Code Red” 22 years ago and might be looking to rekindle the fire. Jazzy Jeff has not helped Smith with any tracks yet in person but they plan on getting together soon.

With Jazzy Jeff regularly DJ'ing parties for Smith in his spare time, the two childhood friends have entertained the idea of recording new material.

“Timelines are a thing of record companies,” Jeff said. “The beauty of it is that he started [recording], and he's ready to go.”

Smith released his first verse in more than a decade last week and Jeff suggested to Will that he even use Soundcloud to upload a song. Jazzy Jaff has confirmed they are talking about ways to make this release special and fit the times.
