Chris from Guns N Roses Talks Going EDM with Beatrazr (Exclusive Interview)

Chris Pitman has played in tons of bands, been all over the world and back, and now he's staying current and performing with the same energy that made him one of the world's best entertainers as a member of Guns N Roses.

The new project is called Beatrazr and we had a chance to talk about the hype. Chris and Frank Ferrer (both Guns N Roses members) recently played a killer DJ set at a show we co-sponsored at Spazio in Miami with a strong first impression. The live show, which includes instrumental interpretation at times, is capturing everyone's imagination.

With a very diverse background as a guitarist, keyboardist, and songwriter, Chris is making a clean transition into production (skip below to hear their debut tune).

“It's always between Logic and Ableton for us. I did programming for Arturia soft synths, which are great plugins. Production wise, the advantages of digital for clarity and transients, as well as clip automation, is unreal now. The technology has made a lot of new ideas possible.”

We talked about his background on the decks and how this evolution began.

“About five years ago I started doing DJ events in Brazil, and LA… my forte was rock songs that I remixed with house beats, Drum and bass, and gradually I started playing live Bass guitar and synths in the set…added Frank (Ferrer) on electronic drums and so on. Then it evolved into producing music.”

Frank is known for being an incredible drummer. Together, they've started to make some wild tunes which we had a chance to hear.

“Electronic music has really evolved in the last five years. It is really progressive and pushing the boundaries. It's great that people are attentive to that. I get really excited when I hear something new and innovating, it gives you hope for a brighter future.”

Judging by their dynamic, Beatrazr will be a must-see act.

“Our chemistry and chaotic nature makes for good stories….and broken bones,” he added. “We probably are more uninhibited in front of people, and very physical and chaotic as well. Many times we knock things over, stop the CDJ's. We don't care, it's all in good fun and we know that we're jackasses. We ain't foolin' no one!”

So what can we expect this year? The guys released a new track just two days ago called “Johnny Blazer.” Check it out below.

“This has been two years in the making, and very difficult to do and be timely, and I like the vibe of just starting something again. We have a steady stream of new songs to release and put out there, we're really jazzed.”

With strong experience as entertainers with a fearless attitude, the guys are already making plenty of friends in the scene.
