Dirtybird 10 (Album Review)

As a fan of the wobbly sounds and anything that makes you fidget, it’s been extremely gratifying to see the San Francisco imprint that started in a small apartment with a cult fan base become one of the most cutting edge independent labels in the music industry. Claude VonStroke deserves much applause for his bringing Dirtybird to where it is today, and Dirtybird 10 is him and his posse's pat on the back, doing what they do best with plenty of fan favorites and newcomers delivering solid, hyphy, tech beats.

Just like last years Dirtybird BBQ compilation, no tune sticks out as the sore thumb of the bunch, and 10 is even a bit more diverse, featuring a couple techno additions from Eats Everything and Breach as well as their first true Ibiza style tune from none other than island resident Doorly. Label MVP, Justin Martin teams up with Ardalan in Function, Shiba San, who recently turned heads for his Deadmau5 remix of I Remember, ironically drops the tune I Can’t Remember, and Catz&Dogz return as well with their electro swing inspired Who Said It’s Time. All are stellar tracks but the one that takes the cake goes to the godfather Mr. Vonstroke himself and his title track Big 10. It’s a lot faster than some of his tunes in recent memory, with a beat that’ll slap your face off, almost as if Claude’s been waiting for a special moment to drop this one.

While most EDM stars are constantly going bigger and bigger in todays bigroom popularity contest, Dirtybird has created a very special sort of vibe for people that don’t just wanna jump up and down in a blurry, sweaty haze, but actually want to shake their hips and gig to some dirty underground house sounds. Front to back dopeness with tons of cameos and covering more ground than ever before, Dirtybird 10 has too fresh to ignore.
