Armin van Buuren at Pier 94 (Event Review)

The year of 2014 was a huge year for EDM so what could have been a better way to close such an amazing year than RPM's BIG WEEK NYC? RPM brought superstar DJs to the Big Apple night after night and with DJs ranging from newcomers such as Cash Cash and Martin Garrix to veterans such as Kaskade and Disclosure, New York City was definitely the place to be to ring in the new year! Also, with DJs of virtually every electronic genre, each night was a unique night to remember; specifically, Armin van Buuren at Pier 94 on December 29th!

Yes, the King of Trance returned to NYC this past week, and as usual, he delivered the absolute incredible! Following sets by Mark Sixma and Jochen Miller, the stage was perfectly placed for Armin van Buuren to deliver a beautiful two and a half hour performance and truly place the entire crowd into a state of trance.

Overall, Armin played a flawless set, but that is to be expected from a veteran. However, the fashion in which it was done is what makes such a performance so special. Prior to Armin's arrival on stage, the lights dimmed and music began to play in suspense while the crowd's excitement built. Then “Armin van Buuren” began to flash on screen, in sync with the music as feelings of angst rose throughout Pier 94, as all waited for the moment they came for, Armin! The King greeted the venue and the city in a calm and collected manner, but the tone soon escalated as the beat built up and Armin asked us if we were ready to go into a state of trance, “oh yes we were!”

The Armin van Buuren show is unlike any other, to truly be in a state of trance is a magical feeling, a feeling only Armin can deliver. It may have been my first Armin van Buuren show, firsthand, but as Armin mixed from hit to hit, with ease, I felt something I had only felt a couple of times before at a show, true euphoria! From playing trance hits of his own to other hits such as Gareth Emery ‘Concrete Angel' and ‘U' and even to, my personal favorite, ‘Fellow Feeling' by Porter Robinson, it was as if Armin was inside your mind and knew exactly what you wanted to hear at that exact moment!

The night was truly a night to remember, whether it was your first time seeing Armin live, or it was your one hundredth time, the night was truly a night to remember! From the openers Mark Sixma and Jochen Miller, to the closer Andrew Rayel, to the main event, the King of Trance, Armin van Buuren, New York City was the place to be this New Year's Eve and Pier 94 was definitely the place to be last Monday, December 29th!
