Fans familiar with Figure's music know that every Halloween the legendary dubstep producer releases a new EP in the “Monsters” series. In a recent interview, we explored the possibility of him expanding his holiday spirit into Christmas.
We also talked about his upcoming tour featuring “TERRORVISION” and several intimate North American venues, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the electronic music industry as a whole…
In the works: Josh Gard, aka Figure, is best known for his heavy bass drops and filthy dubstep sound production. He's also known for connecting with horror theatrics. His latest idea is to tour North America's most popular small, intimate venues with uniquely terrifying visualizations:
“The cut scenes in House of 1000 Corpses; think about that, the entire time, in small rooms.” The goal is to be “super ADD.”
The plan is to hit major cities across the United States, film an aftermovie / trailer, and then launch the tour on the rest of North America.
Figure has a lot of new music on the edge of release. Working on DOOM and OWSLA, he continues to set trends in dubstep, drumstep, dum n bass, and even something a little different:
“It doesn’t sound like me at all. It’s real music and almost pretty.”
As far as the prospective Christmas-themed album, Figure shared a few light-hearted thoughts:
“Actually, I have this record that is a Tales From the Crypt Christmas record; just really demented. I have to make a Christmas edit. It’s going to be demented. It’s not going to be about reindeer, it’s going to be about santa getting his throat slit.”
In a world of Soundcloud haters and blogging critics, it was refreshing to hear a producer like Figure have a few good things to say:
“Thank God for soundcloud. If soundcloud didn’t exist then it would just be Beatport and iTunes). We’d all be uploading Zippyshare links and posting them to our facebook.
Kids bookmark blogs and that’s their insight, that’s their window to the world.
It’s nothing to be political about”
