Late Night Alumni at Studio Paris Review

Last Wednesday, I went to see Late Night Alumni for at Studio Paris, a small classy venue right above Chicago's Paris Club restaurant. I first heard of Late Night Alumni in November of last year, and having been immediately drawn to vocalist Becky William's pure voice, I was so excited to attend the intimate Studio Session and hear her voice live.

Right at midnight, Becky took the stage accompanied by fellow Late Night Alumni producer John Hancock. They started off the night with a rendition of Pure Imagination, upon which resulted in some people chattering, “Isn't this from Willy Wonka?” Distancing myself from the chatter (and wondering how anyone could talk over Becky's beautiful voice), I moved closer to the stage and found myself just a few feet away from Becky. She looked stunning in her glittery black and silver dress, which showed off her 6-month baby bump.

Late Night Alumni's set mostly consisted of songs from their past albums, Haunted and Of Birds, Bees, Butterflies, Etc., including crowd favorites like “You Can Be the One,” “Finally Found,” This Is Why,” and Becky's personal favorite (as she stated during the set), “What's In a Name.” I was glad to hear some of my favorites such as “In the Ashes,” “Empty Street,” and “It's Not Happening,” as well as Kaskade‘s “4 AM.” We also got to hear three songs off Late Night Alumni's latest album that came out this Tuesday – “Shine,” “Sapphire” and “Ring a Bell.”

Becky's live performance was literally pitch-perfect, and her angelic voice was velvet smooth and flawless, almost to the point that I couldn't tell that it was a live performance. I was amazed at her performance, and I was smitten by her cute smiles while she sang – including her smile during a split second where she lost balance on her wedges! It was great to see the synergy between Becky and John, and John was mouthing the lyrics to all the songs as Becky was singing. The next time Late Night Alumni comes to town, I'll definitely be seeing them again. Until then, I'll have to get my Late Night Alumni fix by buying their new album!
